For all of our bars here in Pointe Coupee Parish, it's been a financial drain to keep the facilities closed during the state-imposed coronavirus shutdown of nonessential businesses. On New Year’s Eve in 2019, the historic Cedar Club in Morganza reopened as the Cedar Saloon, hosting live bands every Saturday night. Not only was it exciting for the parish to have an historic building restored, but also to have some incredibly talented musicians entertaining its clientele every weekend. Just a few months after a very successful opening, everything was shut down. Many people wondered how the “non-essential” businesses would survive, and it’s so good to see how many have made it.
Earlier this month our state entered Phase 3, allowing live music indoors once again. Many people are “itching” to let loose, to enjoy themselves after a long year of seclusion. Now, The Cedar Saloon has got you covered! The welcome mat is out! This local “hotspot” is back in full force with live bands scheduled every Saturday night. One of the most impressive bands coming soon is Travis Matte and the Kingpins on Saturday, April 10th. Matte and his band packed The Cedar Saloon during their live performance in early 2020. They are looking forward to returning once again to the stage in Morganza.
Travis Matte and the Kingpins band performs a mixture of Louisiana based sounds that blend several genres that stem from Cajun, Zydeco, Creole and Swamp Pop, mixing it with other world genres that have influenced this band to create their original style. The band has released 10 albums, and have been closing out Festivals throughout the world. Their live music venues are full of fun, party style energy!
